Program Description | Advocacy in Action: Women in Leadership Roundtable. With half of the world’s population being female today, one would think that there should be a more equal number of women moving into senior leadership positions and corporate board seats, but gender parity is still slow rising for a variety of reasons. However, a recent study reported, “Female CEOs, Board Chairs, and Nominating Chairs have an average of 30.0%, 27.7%, and 23.1% women on their boards, respectively, while men in these positions trail at 17.3%, 17.6% and 17.2% women. While we cannot speak to causation, there is clearly a stronpositive correlation between women in leadership positions and gender diversity on boards.”  Join the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Corporate Directors Texas TriCities Chapter as they host a joint luncheon with corporate director and speaker, Jill Griffin, Author of Earn Your Seat on a Corporate Board. Some themes that Jill will discuss from her executive and corporate board experience, and book research include:

  • Is public board service right for you? What else is out there and how do women find it?
  • A special word to women on communication.
  • Creating change through advocacy  – what do men do better?
  • Placing value on diversity to achieve gender parity in senior leadership roles and on boards.
  • How to better navigate your path to senior leadership positions or when to create your own path.

Following her talk, attendees will meet in roundtables to discuss advocacy in action and collaborate with peers.  Guests will leave with actionable key takeaways to help guide their next steps into leadership roles within their organizations and will have an opportunity to purchase Jill Griffin’s recent book.
